A bit about the Fair's history

The Fair was started started in June of 1997 on the banks of the Liesbeek River in Observatory as a way of bringing like-minded people together in a community-oriented setting who were interested in exploring body, mind and spirit topics. After a short move to the River Club, until 2011 it was held at the Observatory Recreation Centre, and after we outgrew that space, we moved to Gardens Commercial High School in May of 2012.

The Fair was originally known as the Holistic Lifestyle Fair, but the move in 2012 was a great chance for us to revamp the event slightly in celebration of its 15 years of existence. The Fair has always had a strong emphasis on showcasing a variety of healthier living options, but our focus since 2012 has been to move more towards environmentally-friendly options, as well as offering opportunities for visitors to learn about making more conscious choices about their physical health, emotional wellbeing, and 'growing their soul' through free talks, films and workshops.

Visitors can expect to find an average of 100 lifestyle exhibitor each month, ranging from holistic therapists, life readers, whole and organic food, plants, eco-friendly products, world music, a great selection of books, limited edition clothes/jewellery and handcrafts, body care products, crystals, talismans, art and handcraft, henna painting, decor and much more. Besides offering free films and talks every month, we also frequently  feature a variety of free entertainment such as live music and performances, plus we also have a kids' activity area. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome!

The Fair has always had a relaxed, friendly vibe that invites people of all backgrounds, ages and belief systems to come together in a comfortable and open-minded setting. We have a loyal following of regulars, and many people who come once become familiar faces amongst the crowd. We have visitors who started coming in 1997 who have been there almost every month since - hope to welcome you there soon!
